´ºÓêÖ±²¥ City Council has today (July 5) launched its new housing pamphlet – “Building great homes, creating great places – ´ºÓêÖ±²¥ leads the way”.

´ºÓêÖ±²¥ has long been a place of social reformers, from the Chamberlains through to today the leaders of the city strive to provide the best quality of life for those who live and work here.

´ºÓêÖ±²¥’s radical 19th century mayor Joseph Chamberlain understood that poor housing is an economic as well as a social issue and began clearing the city’s slums in 1874, demonstrating that local government could make a positive difference to people’s lives. This pamphlet sets out how the city council is continuing that legacy.

The pamphlet was launched at an event held at the Library of ´ºÓêÖ±²¥, when council leader Cllr John Clancy was joined by guest speakers Wayne Hemingway, of Hemingway Design, and Clive Jessup, managing director of developer Jessup.
